The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted monsoon rains in the country from July 3 to 8, adding that Islamabad, Peshawar and Lahore are among the few cities that face the threat of urban flooding due to heavy rains.

The weather office said in a press release that moist currents from the Arabian Sea along with the western wave are likely to enter the upper parts of Pakistan on Monday (July 3), causing rain or thundershowers in many areas of the country.

Pakistan Meteorological Department said Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Lahore are the five cities facing the threat of urban flooding, while heavy rains could cause landslides in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All officers have been advised to be vigilant.

In addition, due to heavy rains from July 6 to 8, flash floods may also occur in some adjoining areas of Northeast Balochistan.

“Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast,” the release said.

Heavy rains and storms last week disrupted public life in the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and caused problems in sewage systems, according to Geo News. Sewage lines were blocked, allowing rainwater to enter shops and homes.
