Pakistan has started talks with Taliban: PM Imran Khan

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Saturday that his government has started talks with the Taliban to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Khan’s remarks came after a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Dushanbe, where SCO members discussed in-depth issues related to Afghanistan.

“After long meetings with leaders of Afghanistan’s neighbors in Dushanbe, especially with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, I began negotiations with the Taliban to include Tajik, Hazara and Uzbek communities in the Afghan government for an inclusive government. done,” Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a tweet.

This development comes as Pakistan is being pulled up by the international community for not protecting the interests of minorities in the country.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Islamabad supported the Taliban in the siege of Afghanistan.

In August, the Taliban overthrew a democratically elected government in the country and announced a caretaker government that would administer Sharia law.

The situation in Afghanistan has been deteriorating ever since the Taliban came to power.

Earlier, Pakistan Imran Khan had also said that if the US does not hold talks with the Taliban and takes a positive stand on its recognition, it may increase problems in the region, local media reported.

Khan expressed that the US war on terrorism was “devastating” for Pakistan as Washington used Islamabad as a “hire gun” during its 20-year presence in Afghanistan. “We (Pakistan) were like hired guns.”
