Pakistan government rejects reports of monkeypox case in the country

According to an official of the Ministry of National Health Services, special instructions have been issued to all national and provincial health authorities to be on high alert for any suspected case of monkeypox, Radio Pakistan reported.

The Pakistan government on Monday dismissed “false” online reports that the country had a case of monkeypox, as it maintains high alert to monitor the viral zoonotic disease. According to an official of the Ministry of National Health Services, special instructions have been issued to all national and provincial health authorities to be on high alert for any suspected case of monkeypox, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to the report, ‘The official said that the information circulating on social media about the monkeypox case in Pakistan is wrong. No case of the viral disease has been reported in the country so far, the National Institutes of Health said after reports of cases on social media. However, the government has begun preparations to deal with the menace and Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel announced last week that the government had ordered test kits to diagnose it.

We have ordered the kits (for testing) and they (we) will arrive soon, he said, adding that the staff at the country’s entry points were also alerted, adding: no cases have come up so far.
