Top intelligence sources said that Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind the Poonch terror attack in which five army personnel lost their lives and one was seriously injured. cnn-news18 on Thursday. The attack took place when terrorists ambushed an army vehicle taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in Jammu and Kashmir.

All the five deceased personnel belonged to the Rashtriya Rifles unit and were deployed for anti-terrorist operations in the area.

“This attack was done by Lashkar. This group has been sitting in the forests of Rajouri and Poonch for some time. They come out, commit crimes and go back to their places. Earlier, they also attacked a house in Rajouri.”

Top intelligence sources have also said that it is not correct to link the incident to the upcoming G20 summit, which is to be held in September, as the terrorist groups are “looking for an opportunity”.

Meanwhile, top government sources said Pakistan is “discrediting itself in front of the world” as proscribed terror outfit Lashkar is operated and operated by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from the neighboring country.

The seriously injured jawan was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital in Rajouri.

“Today, at about 1500 hrs, unidentified terrorists fired upon an army vehicle moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in Rajouri sector, taking advantage of heavy rain and low visibility. The vehicle caught fire due to possible use of grenade by the terrorists. Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for anti-terrorist operations in the area have unfortunately lost their lives in the incident. Another seriously injured soldier was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital in Rajouri and is undergoing treatment,” the Northern Command Headquarters said in a statement.

The operation to trace the culprits is on and further details are being ascertained, the statement said.

Army and police personnel have reached the spot, which is 90 km from Poonch.
