Pakistan: In a brutal incident, a nine-year-old girl student was killed and five others were injured after a policeman opened fire at the gate of a private school (a Missionary Public School) in Pakistan. The incident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday when a police constable on duty opened fire on children in the parking lot of the school near the main gate of Swat Public School Sangota, police said. Later, police sources said that the constable who fired at the students was mentally disturbed.

Injured students are out of danger

Missionary Public School is located inside the Police Station in Mangalore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The injured were rushed to the nearby Saidu Sharif Hospital, currently the injured students are out of danger.

Soon after the incident, the constable was arrested and his weapon was confiscated. He later admitted that he had started firing at the police van by mistake.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur has taken cognizance of the incident and issued strict instructions. Regional Police Officer Malakand Division Nasir Mehmood Satti, District Police Officer Swat Shafiullah Khan Gandapur and Deputy Commissioner Swat Irfanullah Wazir visited the hospital and inquired about the health of the injured school children.

A spokesperson of the Swat Police said that the investigation team is interrogating the accused constable and all norms of justice will be meted out.
