peshawar blastAt least 28 people were killed and 95 others injured in a powerful suicide blast at a mosque during afternoon prayers on Monday in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.

Geo News reported that the injured have been admitted to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital. According to media reports, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the mosque.

The blast took place near the Police Line area around 1.40 pm when a suicide bomber blew himself up during Zuhr (afternoon) prayers.

“A portion of the building has collapsed and several people are feared trapped under it,” the official said.

Eyewitnesses said most of the injured were policemen.

Hospital sources said the condition of 13 of the injured was critical.

Emergency has been declared in Peshawar hospitals. The hospital has appealed citizens to donate blood for the victims. PTI

Former PM expressed grief over the incident

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter to express his grief over the incident. He said, “Strongly condemn the terrorist suicide attack at Police Lines Masjid Peshawar during prayers. My prayers and condolences are with the families of the victims. It is imperative that we improve our intelligence gathering and deal with the growing threat of terrorism.” Equip your police forces properly for that.” ,
