PakistanAt least 16 people were killed in violent clashes between two tribes in Pakistan’s northwestern region on Monday, ARY News reported.

The incident took place between Sanikhel and Zarghun Khel tribes in Dera Adam Khek area, about 35 km south-west of Peshawar in Kohat district, over the demarcation of the mine, he said.

The dead bodies and the injured have been shifted to the hospital in Peshawar. Police said the exact number of injured could not be immediately ascertained, but the casualties occurred in the firing from both sides.

Joint teams of police and other security forces rushed to the spot and stopped the exchange of fire between the rival tribes.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident at Darra Adam Sports Station.

The dispute between the Sanikhel and Jarghun Khel tribes over the delimitation of the coal mine has been going on for the past few years and several conciliatory “jirgas” have been held to end the impasse.
