PAK Vs WI series in danger, 5 members of Windies squad test Covid-19 positive

With one T20I and three ODIs still to be played, the future of West Indies’ tour of Pakistan looks bleak as three WI players and two support staff tested Covid-19 positive on Thursday. Shai Hope, Akil Hossein and Justin Greaves are among those who have tested positive for the virus.

Cricket said, “The latest round of tests conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board along with wicketkeeper/batsman Shai Hope, left-arm spinner Akil Hossein, all-rounder Justin Greaves, assistant coach Roddy Estwick and team physician Dr Akshay Mansingh showed positive results.” West Indies in a statement

“Therefore all three players will miss the upcoming matches and all five individuals will remain in isolation from the rest of the West Indies team and are now under the care and supervision provided by the medical authorities. They will be in isolation for ten (10) days. or until they return negative PCR test results,” read the statement further.

Pakistan have already won the T20I series by winning the first two matches extensively. The Windies side were looking to return to the series in a fresh form but the latest development has dented their revival prospects a bit. West Indies also lost Devon Thomas to a finger injury.

Before the match, players of both the teams will have to undergo RT-PCR test again. Only then both the boards can reach a decision regarding the future of the PAK Vs WI series.

The CWI release further said, “CWI and PCB officials will meet on Thursday morning, once all members of the visiting party are re-tested, to determine whether the tour can continue. “
