PAK vs WI: Mohammad Rizwan becomes first batsman to score 2,000 T20 runs in a calendar year

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan on Thursday became the first batsman to score 2,000 T20 runs in a calendar year during his team’s third and final T20 International against the West Indies here.

The wicketkeeper-batsman achieved this feat by scoring a quick-witted half-century (86 off 45). He had earlier overtaken Chris Gayle of West Indies in the list of most T20 runs in a calendar year.

Rizwan started with 158 runs with Babar Azam (79 off 53), setting up Pakistan’s victory with seven balls to spare and the number of wickets remaining, registering their highest successful chase in T20Is.

The attacking batsman ended the year with 2,036 runs in T20 cricket with the help of 18 half-centuries and a century. Of the total 2,036 T20 runs, 1,326 were scored in T20Is, which is the most runs by a cricketer in a calendar year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam also scored a half-century and became the first player to score 20 scores of 50 or more in overall T20 cricket in a calendar year.

Pakistan chased down their highest Twenty20 International run chase of seven wickets in a seven-wicket win over West Indies on Thursday to secure a 3-0 series win in Karachi.

In Karachi, Pakistan won the first match by 63 runs and the second by nine runs.

This is his seventh 3–0 whitewash in Twenty20 International cricket, and his third against West Indies.

Rizwan, who reversed the leg-before decision against him in the first ball, and Azam put on a 158-run stand in 15 overs over the West Indies bowlers.
