He was dismissed for 26 off 39, with New Zealand struggling at 69/3. “Fantastic start to Usma Mir’s ODI career! Kane Williamson is Usama’s first ODI wicket,” Real PCB captioned their post on Instagram.

Earlier Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl on a pitch as play was expected to progress further. He turned out to be right as the Pakistan spinner bought off the strip, with Williamson failing to read the turn and then Daryl Mitchell, who was bowled across the edge by Mohammad Nawaz.

Pakistan put New Zealand in to bat in the first ODI

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and sent New Zealand into bat on Monday in the first Day-Night International in Karachi.

Pakistan handed the ODI cap to 27-year-old leg-spinner Usama Mir after showing good form in the home matches, while New Zealand included 26-year-old all-rounder Henry Shipley in his international debut.

The teams will also meet in Karachi both on Wednesday and Friday.

New Zealand, runner-up in the last World Cup in 2019, having won 10 of their 16 ODIs last year.

They have been dominant against Pakistan, winning 12 of the last 15 ODIs between the two teams.
