Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday announced that he will lead the Pakistan delegation to the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Goa in a video message.

Zardari stressed that his presence reflected Pakistan’s commitment to the SCO’s charter. He said he plans to hold productive talks with his counterparts from other friendly nations during his visit, which is entirely focused on the SCO.

“On the way to Goa, India. He will lead the Pakistan delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) CFM. My decision to attend this meeting reflects Pakistan’s strong commitment to the Charter of the SCO. “During my visit, which specifically focuses on the SCO, I look forward to constructive discussions with my counterparts from friendly countries,” Zardari tweeted along with a video.

It should be noted that Zardari said that he and his delegation would particularly focus on the SCO. Earlier, a CNN-News18 report citing people familiar with the developments had said that no bilateral issue would be raised, even on the spot. The focus of the meeting will be solely on addressing regional and international matters of mutual concern and interest.

He will focus on climate change and raise the problems faced by Pakistan due to the devastating floods in June last year and urge the member countries to strengthen trade ties with Pakistan.

After consultations with various stakeholders including Pakistan’s security establishment, it was decided that Pakistan would not skip the multilateral conference to be held in India. As a result, the foreign ministers of the country will attend the conference in Goa, as per the report.

The report also states that the Pakistan Army, which handles the country’s foreign affairs, has instructed the Foreign Office to prioritize discussions around regional cooperation, trade and peace at the SCO CFM Goa.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is scheduled to lead the Pakistani delegation to the SCO CFM in Goa on May 4 and 5 and is expected to reach Goa on Thursday evening. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already arrived.

Foreign ministers of SCO member states will discuss regional security, economic cooperation and how Afghanistan It can become a base of terrorism under Taliban rule.
