The government informed Parliament on Tuesday that over 83,000 posts were lying vacant in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as CRPF and BSF against the total strength of 10,15,237 posts as on January 1.

The forces where posts are lying vacant include Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Assam . Rifles.

“The present number of vacancies in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles as on January 1, 2023, is 83,127 against the total sanctioned strength of 10,15,237,” Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply. a question in the Lok Sabha

He said that 32,181 people were recruited between July 2022 and January 2023 and an additional 64,444 vacancies have been notified and are in various stages of recruitment, adding that it is planned to conclude the exercise in 2023 itself.

The minister said that it would be wrong to say that existing employees are forced to work overtime due to vacancies.

The Minister said that filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and added that the Ministry of Home Affairs is taking serious steps to fill up the vacancies expeditiously through UPSC, SSC and related forces and will continue to do so.

The CRPF is deployed for internal security duties, maintenance of law and order and anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.

The BSF guards the country’s 3,323 km long border with Pakistan (excluding the 740 km long Line of Control) and 4,096 km long border with Bangladesh.

CISF guards important installations, such as nuclear plants, major industries, metro networks and other important government buildings.

ITBP guards the 3,488 km long Sino-Indian border.

The SSB guards India’s borders with Nepal (1,751 km) and Bhutan (699 km).

The Assam Rifles guards the 1,643-km Indo-Myanmar border and conducts counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast.
