Over 7 Flights Cancelled in Northeast Due to Poor Visibility, Air Traffic Affected

At least seven flights were canceled due to poor visibility in the Northeast due to inclement weather conditions, an Airport Authority of India official revealed on Wednesday. The list included flights that were operating on the Guwahati to Tezu and Tezu to Guwahati routes. They canceled the operation due to bad weather and low visibility in the sky over the capital city. “The Tezu-Imphal flight was canceled due to poor visibility. All these three flights are operated by Flybig Airlines,” he said. Pawan Hans Tezpur-Guwahati and Guwahati-Tezpur services were canceled due to bad weather, the official said.

“Alliance Air’s Guwahati-Dimapur-Imphal and return Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati flight were also canceled during the day,” he added. Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) scientist Sanjay O’Neil Shaw said the weather conditions and visibility are likely to improve in the next two-three days. “It will be generally cloudy in Guwahati with light rain or drizzle expected on Thursday. Friday will be similar,” he said.

An AAI official controlling the air traffic control (ATC) in Guwahati said the minimum visibility required to take off at the airport is 1,300 metres, while for take-off it is 300-350 metres. Besides, a total of eight flights that were supposed to land at the Goa International Airport in Dabolim were diverted on Wednesday morning due to visibility issues, an official said.

He said that more than 20 flights were delayed due to poor visibility. The diverted flights later “returned to Goa International Airport, Dabolim,” the airport authority said in a statement. The flights that were diverted included an Oman Air flight which was diverted to Mumbai. The official said that it was to reach at 2.35. GoFirst flight G8-575 and Air India flight AI-685 were diverted to Mumbai. Air Asia flight I5-818 and Indigo flight 6E-743 were diverted to Hyderabad while Air Asia Delhi Goa flight I5-779 was diverted to Bengaluru. Indigo flights from Cochin and Bengaluru were also asked to divert to Mumbai till visibility improves in Goa.
