Over 5,000 Delhi government school students provided free preparatory classes for CUET: Sisodia

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said that over 5,000 school students of the Delhi government were provided free preparatory classes for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). “This year, for the first time, CUET is being conducted for admission in Central Universities of India. “Many Delhi government school students wanted to prepare for admission, but were not in a position to pay high coaching fees,” Sisodia said during an interaction with CUET aspirants at Kautilya Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Chirag Enclave here. “For them, this initiative ensured that adequate support is provided to all aspiring students at the school level itself, so that they do not consider giving up on dreams for financial reasons,” he said.

During classes spread over 20 days, students were guided in more than 13 subjects. Sisodia said that he was also given the experience of ‘computer based tests’ through online mock test series. He said that individual mock tests were prepared for each stream of Arts, Science and Commerce.

“This helped the students to develop the skills of time-management and stress management during the examination. Regular practice has boosted their confidence and reduced the fear of exams in the students. “Special centers were created for the preparation of commerce and science subjects by forming clusters of schools. Preparation guidance was provided at the school level for arts subjects. A total of 106 centers were set up for CUET classes in the south-eastern district,” Sisodia said.

The first edition of CUET-UG, will be conducted from July 15 to August 10, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced last week. Over 14 lakh candidates have registered for the first edition of CUET. NTA released the admit cards for CUET UG on Monday.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced in March that CUET scores, not Class 12 marks, would be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities and central universities may decide their own minimum eligibility criteria. A total of 44 Central Universities, 12 State Universities, 11 Deemed Universities and 19 Private Universities have applied to participate in the first edition of CUET for UG admission in the 2022-23 academic session.
