out of Delhi Coveshield; Vaccine shortage in Maharashtra, MP too

New Delhi: Several states including the national capital Delhi, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh have flagged the shortage of the Kovid-19 vaccine. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia informed that several government-run vaccination centers in Delhi will remain closed on Tuesday as the city has exhausted its Covid-19 vaccine stock.

Sharing the report on the shortage of vaccines, Sisodia said in a Twitter post, “Again vaccines are out in Delhi. Central government gives vaccine for a day or two, then we have to keep vaccine centers closed for several days. Why is our country’s vaccine program faltering even after so many days?

According to reports, only 36,310 vaccine doses were given in the national capital till 10 pm on Monday.

Notably, a significant drop in daily vaccinations has been observed across the country since June 21. Apart from Delhi, Odisha, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have also complained about the lack of vaccine.

Data available on the CoWIN platform shows that between June 21-27, an average of 61.14 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered on a daily basis. However, in the week after June, the daily average dose of the vaccine came down to 41.92 lakh doses. This dropped to 34.32 lakh doses between July 5 and July 11.

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crosses 38 crore milestone. More than 37.03 lakh vaccine doses were given till Monday evening. The Center plans to vaccinate the entire adult population in India by the end of December this year.
