Oslo tops the list for healthy work-life balance, check out other cities on the list

Finding the right work-life balance is a daunting task for many of us, but the residents of Oslo seem to have found a solution. According to a recent survey by software company Casey, the Norwegian capital is the best city in the world for a healthy work-life balance. The city took the top spot from its second-place ranking last year. The list includes 100 cities around the world where residents can achieve a healthy work-life balance.

The cities on the list are ranked on a number of factors including work intensity, institutional support, legislation and livability in the current context of massive inflation and consequences from the pandemic and the Russo-Ukraine War. Under work intensity, factors such as remote jobs, over-working population, minimum vacation days offered, vacation days, unemployment, multiple job holders, inflation, and days of paid parental leave were also considered. Meanwhile, the society and institutional support rankings depend on factors such as health care, COVID support, access to mental health care, and inclusivity and tolerance. Under city livability, the survey considered impacts such as air quality, well-being, outdoor space, affordability, happiness, culture and leisure, and city safety.

Six of the top 10 cities on the list are from Europe: Oslo, Bern, Helsinki, Zurich, Copenhagen and Geneva. Ottawa, Sydney, Stuttgart, Munich are other cities that figure in the top 10.

Nearly a third of the top 30 cities are from Germany. The highest-ranked US city Seattle is ranked 32nd and the top-ranked Asian city Tokyo is ranked 14th. No Indian city has made it to the list, but some Asian cities that have secured a spot are Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Dubai and Hong Kong. Dubai is ranked 99th which makes it one of the most working cities among better cities.
