Producer Guneet Monga opens up about The Elephant Whispers’ big win at the 95th Academy Awards.
The Elephant Whispers became the first film produced in India to win the ‘Documentary Short Film’ category at the 95th Oscars. Producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves, who produced this docu-short feature, also created history by becoming the first Indian producer and director to receive this recognition. She is also the first Indian woman producer and director to win an Academy Award. The Elephant Whispers is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain under the banner of Sikhya Entertainment.
On winning the prestigious award, producer Guneet Monga shared, “Tonight was powerful and historic as two women from India stood on the Oscars dais, applauded for their work. I am so proud of The Elephant Whispers, so proud of this moment and so proud of my amazing team at Sikh Entertainment. That an independent production house from India has created history and produced the first Indian film to win an Oscar, it still seems unreal. My heart is full of joy, love and excitement, much of it imbibed from everyone cheering for our victory in India. I am very grateful to the visionary filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves and Netflix Who believed in us in every way and gave us the biggest platform in the world. The future of cinema is audacious, for women who want to tell stories, the future is here. This is for my beautiful, diverse country India.”
In an Academy Award-winning speech, director Kartiki Gonsalves proudly said, “The documentary allowed me to speak about the sacred bond between us and our natural world—for respect for indigenous communities and empathy for the other living beings with whom we interact. share your location. The Elephant Whispers is the heartwarming story of an indigenous couple who have been given the care of an orphaned elephant, Raghu. The story follows the journey of the couple as they work relentlessly to ensure Raghu’s recovery and survival. The short documentary beautifully weaves the story of how the couple fall in love with the majestic creature over time. Set against the backdrop of the wild places of South India, The Elephant Whispers highlights the beauty of exotic wildlife, unforgettable untamed locations and the people and animals who share this place.
RRR (Hindi)’s The Elephant Whispers and Nattu Nattu were the first ever Indian wins at the 95th Academy Awards. Both the movies are streaming on Netflix worldwide.
