All That Breathes, directed by filmmaker Shaunak Sen, has received a nomination in the Documentary Feature category at the 95th Academy Awards.

it almost felt like a hat trick India On Tuesday, three original content from India made it to the official Oscar nominations. The wildly popular RRR began with the song Naatu Naatu, which earned The Elephant Whispers a nomination for Best Original Song, which was nominated in the Documentary Short Subject section, and ‘All That Breathes’, which was nominated in the Documentary Feature section. Done, it is undeniably one of the incredible moments for cinema lovers in India and around the world.

Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes was the first film to win Best Documentary at both Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals last year, and with an Academy nomination on the way, everyone is bullish on its win. The critically acclaimed documentary traces the lives of two brothers who dedicate their lives to rescuing and treating injured birds. It is his devotion to a black kite that serves as a vibrant contrast to the bleak backdrop of Delhi’s gloomy gray air.

Some cast and crew members of the film came together in Delhi to watch the Oscar nominations, while others who are from different parts of the world including Shaunak, who is currently in Los Angeles, stayed connected on Zoom.

Producer Aman Mann said, “It is very difficult to describe what we all felt at the nomination, the whole journey of the film has been very dreamlike and we are happy, relieved and grateful that the film has turned out so well Accepted and appreciated. On behalf of the entire team, I can clearly say that it feels good to think that hopefully, it means that we were able to do justice to the story of our characters.

Riju Das, the film’s second DOP, who earlier bagged the much-coveted American Society of Cinematographers nomination for All That Breathes with the great Ben Bernhard, was taken aback when the nomination list came out. He added, “It’s an incredibly proud and humbling moment, one doesn’t think about these things when making a film, so it’s amazing when surprises like this come along. It’s just a great feeling.” and I have no words.”

He further added, “When making a film, we don’t think about festivals and awards in the least, we make films with utmost love for the subject and the story. Once the work is done you just wait whether your hard work will pay off or not, we are lucky to have received so much love and appreciation. It’s very humbling.”

Earlier, when the documentary was shortlisted for Oscars 2023, director Shaunak Sen sat down for an exclusive chat with News18 where he mentioned, “My initial reaction was – relief (after the shortlist came out)! It came around 2 am of our time and it was a completely and utterly sleepless night but also a completely filled with joy and thrill in itself as the movie took up a major part of all our lives Is. I think in the beginning it’s just phone calls for all the crew members and it’s going to be very happy. I’ve always been a little skeptical about happiness, so for me it’s often a calculation of what needs to be done now for next steps.
