Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at last year’s Oscars.
A crisis team has been deployed at this year’s Oscars to avoid any untoward incident.
Will Smith caused quite a storm at last year’s Oscars when he slammed Chris Rock for joking about his wife, Jada Pinkett. To avoid a similar scenario at this year’s Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has put together a crisis team to ensure better response to unforeseen circumstances. As ratings for the Oscars have fallen for the past two years, Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has spoken out about concerns ahead of this year’s prestigious award.
Talking about the newly established Crisis Team, Bill Kramer told the Times, “We have a full Crisis Team, something we’ve never had before, and many plans. We have run several scenarios. So it’s our hope that we’ll be prepared for anything that we can’t anticipate right now but we’re planning in case it does happen.”
He said, “Because of last year, we’ve opened our minds to a lot of things that happen at the Oscars. But these crisis plans—the crisis communication teams and the structures we have in place—allow us to say that this group that we have to gather very quickly. That’s how we all come together. That’s the spokesperson. That would be the statement. And obviously based on the specifics of the crisis, and hope that nothing happens and we never have to use We don’t have to, but we already have designs that we can modify.”
The 95th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on March 12. it’s a big year India at the Oscars. Apart from Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whispers, All That Breathes directed by Shaunak Sen has also been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature Film category. Naatu Naatu composed by MM Keeravani is also nominated for Best Original Song. It had earlier also won a Golden Globe Award in the same category.
