When Oprah Winfrey was in the grip of sexual harassment

In the latest episode of Deepak Chopra’s new Audible podcast ‘Mind Body Zone: Living Outside the Box’, Oprah Winfrey shares in detail the challenges she faced, including her past vulnerabilities due to the events she faced. She also revealed how she has worked using the mind-body connection to transcend the ordinary and redefine her life.

That said, while talking to her guest on a TV show about her instance of sexual harassment, Oprah couldn’t muster up the courage to talk about herself. It was only years later that she could be unprotected and opened to the public.

“A woman had come to share her story of sexual harassment and molestation and she echoed my story,” she expressed on the podcast.

Oprah shared that she gained a deeper sense of being true to herself and knowing that her truth belongs to many others who have gone through similar situations.

“We are all ultimately looking for the same thing, we want the same joy, we have gone through many of the same miseries, to be called a different name, or a different person. And that as much as we have No, it’s more common than that,” she shared.

“And for me, that worldview was that I wasn’t good enough, that I wasn’t really loved. I wasn’t really valued,” Oprah revealed.

After the traumatic life experience of being sexually assaulted by a relative, Oprah shares how the chosen people impact your life.

Even though her biological family didn’t consider her good enough, as time went on, she learned that when people know better, they do better. Through this, she was able to best herself and help herself, without the help of her family, but with people outside her family whom she made her own.

“One thing I know for sure is the family you are born into and then there is the family you create for yourself.”

Talking about how the separation over the past year due to the pandemic has challenged everyone, Oprah revealed how at peace she was with her freedom at the time.

“It’s going to be an interesting transition for me into the real world, with the demands and expectations of the past, because I feel so isolated.”

She explained that it was a time of solace and that there was no hope of being with herself, complete without any guilt. The pandemic completely changed how she perceives herself and what matters most to her.

In his own words, “So I am now at a place where I truly rejoice in my being, rather than in my being.”

Her famous talk show ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history and ran in national syndication for 25 years from 1986 to 2011.
