He alleged that he had insulted President Draupadi Murmu by stalling the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address and demanded an apology from him.

Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Saturday said the government has nothing to hide on the Adani issue and accused opposition parties of creating ruckus in Parliament to avoid debate on the “people-friendly” budget.

He alleged that he had insulted President Draupadi Murmu by stalling the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address and demanded an apology from him.

“We want a discussion on the President’s address and the Budget for 2023-24 which will guide India From Amrit Kaal to Golden Kaal and will lay the foundation of New India but the opposition is running away from the discussion.

Parliament was adjourned without any business for the second consecutive day on Friday after the opposition stepped up its demand for an independent probe into allegations of fraud against billionaire Gautam Adani’s companies.

Proceedings were disrupted in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as opposition members raised slogans demanding discussion on the fraud-allegation-trigger route and a JPC probe.

Responding to a question on the opposition’s demand, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said, “Banks, LIC and RBI have already cleared their statements, while the government has nothing to hide.” “The role of the opposition is very unfortunate. His response to the President’s speech is reprehensible as he repeatedly insulted him. He should immediately apologize to her,” he said.

Thakur said the opposition has gone berserk over the ‘people-friendly’ budget and instead of discussing it, they are creating ruckus.

Briefing the media about the highlights of the budget, he said, “He will have to answer for his behavior in the court of the people.” He said that the Modi government had promised in 2013-14 not to allow corruption in the country. There is not a single allegation of corruption against this government which has been in power for more than eight years. “The Congress has hollowed out this country by rampant corruption. We are running the government honestly and will lead the country towards economic prosperity.

“We provided free Covid vaccines to the public and food to the poor,” he said.

He said that the Congress would surely feel this pain as he had never imagined such a government which only thinks about the citizens and takes the country forward.

On PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s criticism of the BJP’s policies on Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “Some people have lost land because they got used to family rule and land grabbing.” They are out of power and they are disappointed.” Jammu and Kashmir is moving forward on the path of development under the BJP government and will continue to move forward. He said that abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A has brought peace, return of investment and huge influx of tourists with national flag hoisted on every house.

Thakur said he was jailed when he reached Jammu and Kashmir in 2011 while leading the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ from Kolkata to Kashmir.

“Jammu and Kashmir has changed and is witnessing development in a big way,” he said.
