Chinese manufacturer Opposition The company made some camera-related announcements on Thursday, shortly after revealed Earlier this month its “next generation” under-display front camera technology. Oppo is known to showcase camera technology long before it hit the market. During Thursday’s “Future Imaging Technology” event, Oppo announced a new telephoto lens with continuous optical zoom. . This, unlike the Periscope lenses used in many of today’s smartphones, moves the lens elements into the 85–200 mm equivalent zoom range, which means digital zoom at every focal length without the need for cropping or artificial sharpening. Pictures will be crisp.

Oppo’s new module starts with an 85mm focal length, which is considered a typical focal length for portrait headshots, and could make it more versatile. Oppo states that using a camera at different focal lengths ensures consistent performance in terms of color and white balance. Oppo has not given detailed information about when this technology will come to the camera of any commercial device. In addition to continuous optical zoom technology, Oppo also announced a five-axis image stabilization system that uses both lens-shift and sensor-shift technologies as well as movement data from the phone’s gyroscope. Lens shifting is used for more gradual stabilization, while sensor shift is applied in more dramatic situations, and includes the ability to roll the sensor as well as the longer X and Y axes. Oppo claims that its new image stabilization technology allows for stabilization up to three times better than the regular optical image stabilization module.

Unlike the zoom lens, Oppo has confirmed the timeline for the image stabilization technology, saying it will start appearing in smartphones in the first quarter of 2022.

Oppo also announced a new image sensor that uses an RGBW sub-pixel layout, adding additional white sub-pixels to achieve a 60 percent increase in light sensitivity. Oppo said earlier attempts at RGBW sensors had their limitations, but added that the new effort should make a big difference due to a more advanced manufacturing process and better algorithms. This, the company says, will be made for shipping the smartphone in Q4 2021.
