Oppo Find N2 Flip Review [Video]: Good First Attempt

Oppo has made a surprise entry into the premium smartphone market in India with the launch of the Oppo Find N2 Flip foldable. Samsung’s foldable smartphones were the sole choice of Indian consumers for quite some time now, but with Oppo’s entry into the segment, there is at least one more similar device that buyers can now compare.

Talking of comparisons, Oppo seems to have done its homework well. The direct competition of Oppo Find N2 Flip is with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, which currently costs around Rs 83,000. At the same time, the price of Oppo Find N2 is high and its price is Rs 89,999. Having said that, Oppo has solved some very real issues with the foldable phone that justify the higher pricing to some extent.

After using the Oppo Find N2 Flip smartphone for some time, what do we think about this phone.

Oppo is claiming the Find N2 Flip to be a better foldable smartphone than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. For starters, Oppo has solved the crease problem on foldable phones to some extent. The crease on the foldable screen of the OPPO Find N2 Flip is barely visible and cannot be felt while using it. Of course, we can’t really call it an “invisible crease” like Oppo is advertising but it’s a huge improvement compared to Samsung’s flip or fold smartphones. Rest assured, this crease will not be a problem for users of the OPPO Find N2 Flip.

Another big USP is the size of the Cover display. In foldables, especially flip phones, cover displays are important simply because a larger cover display means users don’t need to open the device every time they want to check notifications, read messages, click selfies or use widgets. Will be In addition to the convenience of a large outdoor display.

The quality of the hinge makes a lot of difference in a foldable smartphone. The Oppo Find N2 Flip has improved the hinge design a lot. One of the key innovations is that when the screen is folded, there is no gap near the hinge area. This is important because the gap can trap dust, debris, coins, keys and other small objects on the screen when the device is folded and kept in a trouser pocket.

Apart from the display and design, the Oppo Find N2 Flip packs decent performance with Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ chipset. This flip smartphone is more for style than multitasking and gaming. Having said that, you can expect decent gaming performance from this phone. For regular users who just want a stylish smartphone, this device has enough firepower to meet their daily needs.

Coming to the cameras, the Oppo Find N2 Flip can deliver great angles for taking selfies and photos, thanks to the various flex modes, the actual image quality is subject to the lighting and the sensor you are using. The main 50MP sensor does a decent job at delivering details and color accuracy but the 8MP wide-angle can disappoint at times. Oppo needs to work on the zoom as the results lack details. Overall, the cameras are okay but considering the price, users would surely yearn for better images.

Talking about battery life, this is one area where Oppo has definitely done a better job. The 44W fast charging helps a lot and the battery life is surprisingly good as well. You can easily expect to get more than 24 hours on a single charge on mixed usage with 5G.

Using a flip foldable phone is all about style but one area that the Oppo Find N2 Flip could have done better is the software. It runs on ColorOS 13 and as soon as you open the device, you are greeted with the same UI that you are used to seeing in budget and mid-range phones. Of course, we can’t expect Oppo to create a completely different UI for its first foldable device, but what could have been better is unique software customization and a bit of refinement. For example, the UI of the cover screen could have been more attractive, while Oppo may not have opted for bloatware and offered a custom set of icons out-of-the-box. Overall, Oppo could have offered unique software experience and appearance to differentiate the device.

People may argue that there is no IP rating on the Find N2 Flip, but let’s get this straight, foldable phones are fragile compared to regular devices and you have to be careful while using them.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is a good first attempt. There’s little room not to like the phone and if you want to try a foldable phone for the first time, go right ahead. Undoubtedly, Oppo has made a good device and it is a better flip phone than Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.

But making a good device is different from selling the device. Apart from convincing people to spend their iPhone budget on a foldable phone in India, Oppo has a huge task ahead of changing its brand perception to grab the mindshare of premium customers.

One aspect that buyers should keep in mind is that foldable phones are unique and will continue to be seen in style in 2023 and beyond. More brands like Xiaomi and OnePlus are expected to introduce their foldable phones this year and of course, Samsung will launch its new range of foldables in August 2023. Therefore, it might be a good idea to wait and see. More competition is always good news for buyers.
