Operation Dost: Indian Army medical team 60 Para Field returned home on Monday after providing assistance to earthquake-ravaged Turkey. As part of Operation Dost, a field hospital was set up to provide aid to those affected after a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks in Turkey’s Hatay province.
After returning home, Lt. Col. Adarsh Sharma said that the earthquake-affected people are grateful for the assistance given by India to Turkey. “The patients were very grateful as their health care system was not working at optimum, so they were very grateful to the nation and the team that we are there and providing the necessary medical assistance,” said Lt Col Adarsh Sharma.
He emphasized on their mission of providing timely medical care to the people and winning their hearts and minds. In total, the team has successfully operated on more than 3,600 patients. ‘Over the course of the operation we saw around 3,600 patients, and this included major and minor surgeries. The mission was to win over the hearts and minds of the people by providing timely medical care. I think we have achieved that,’ said Adarsh Sharma.
Medical Officer 60 Para Field, Major Bina Tiwari claimed that he had completed Operation Dost and returned home. He further added that within 1 to 2 hours of building a hospital in earthquake-ravaged Turkey, they started treating patients. ‘We completed Operation Dost and came back to India… Within 1-2 hours of setting up the hospital in Turkey, we started treating patients.’ Major Bina Tiwari said, “We would like to thank the Turkish government and the local people for helping us there.”
