Former cricketer Aakash Chopra said that David Warner needs to be more aggressive to come out on top against the Indian spinners

David Warner has not had a good start in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Australia’s star opener struggled against the Indian bowlers in the first Test in Nagpur, scoring just 1 and 10 runs in the innings. He recently scored a double century against South Africa at the MCG but could not replicate the same performance on Indian soil. His early dismissals, particularly in the second innings of the game, led to a major collapse in batting and as a result, the Australians lost the First Test by an innings and 132 runs.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra took note of Warner’s struggle against Ravichandran Ashwin and said that the Australian opener needs to be more aggressive in order to come out on top against the Indian spinner.

“It is almost certain that in the remaining six innings India Vs Australia Test series, Warner will face the new ball against Ashwin. I think Ashwin is on his mind to a great extent. When this happens it is difficult. It’s like whatever you do, Ashwin will be better than you,” Chopra told ESPNcricinfo.

“The only thing that can allow David Warner to be successful is to be aggressive. If you’re defending, you lack confidence anyway. So, try your luck, come out smashing and with some luck you might come out on top.”

India defeated Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test played at Nagpur. Ashwin dismissed Warner, who scored only 11 runs in the entire innings, for the 11th time in Test cricket. The visitors will be looking to bounce back from their humiliating defeat in the first Test when the two teams clash in the second Test, which begins on February 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
