Silchar: Three people, including a retired soldier, have been arrested with drugs from a hotel in the district. Silchar.
DSP (Cachar) Kalyan Kumar Das said that acting on a tip-off, the police on Thursday evening raided a hotel located in Hailakandi Road area of Silchar city and seized 2,000 yaba/s of Rs 20 lakh in the market with the possession of three persons. Seized WY tablets. Come from Mizoram.

Lal Rabula informed the police that he had voluntarily retired from the army in 2015 and is now working in a security agency based in Mizoram. According to the DSP, the arrested persons are involved in a drug smuggling racket in the Northeast and other parts of the country.
In another incident, a notorious drug smuggler was arrested by the police at Nilambazar in Karimganj district on Thursday. The arrested smuggler has been identified as Zakir Hussain (36), a resident of Kanishail, Karimganj. Sources said that a team of police officers of Nilambazar police station led by OC Kamlesh Singh boarded a bus near Nilambazar police station. Zakir was traveling in the same bus. Policemen in plain clothes launched a search operation and nabbed Zakir with around 24 grams of brown sugar. A source said that the market value of the seized drug is around Rs 1 lakh.
Zakir was produced in a court in Karimganj that day and sent to three-day police custody. Sources said that the police are hopeful that they will be able to get a lot of information about the drug trade after interrogating Karimganj.
