‘One has to wait till the end’; Former Pakistan captain slams PCB for preparing flat Test pitches

Salman Butt has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not producing result oriented pitches for Test cricket at home. Pakistan hosted Australia for a three-match Test series earlier this year. Two matches ended in draws. Butt’s criticism of PCB’s flat pitches came in his recent YouTube video in which he also spoke about Babar Azam’s captaincy skills.

Former Pakistan captain Butt praised Babar for his recent successes as captain in limited overs, but said the real test of his skills would be in the longer format of the game. He said that Test cricket gives the best opportunity to the captain to showcase his skills. However, he added that the wickets being prepared for Test cricket in Pakistan take away everything from the captain in terms of strategy.

“You can look at the pitch and say spinners will play. It is difficult to get the result even till the fifth day. Will have to wait till the end to see if the pitch breaks or not. It does not test the skill of a captain,” he added

Butt recognized that the captain alone could not do everything. He said that a captain needs a skilled and experienced pace attack to win a Test match. While Pakistan has talent in its pace unit, it lacks the necessary experience to try and win Test matches in overseas conditions.

“Babar has a good attack but the bowlers are inexperienced and haven’t played much first-class cricket. Shaheen is a world class talent but needs to gain more experience. Same is the case with spinners. We don’t have a spinner who can walk up the batting order.
