One dead, two injured in firecracker unit accident near Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News – Times of India

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A man died and two others suffered serious burn injuries in a fire accident in a cracker unit near Amathur in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on saturday night. The accident took place at Bommi Fireworks at Ammankoilpatti around 7.30pm, the Amathur police said.
The deceased has been identified as D Arumugam, 52, of O Sankaralingapuram village. His body was taken to the Virudhunagar Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The injured — Gubendran, 38, of Ammankoilpatti, and K Deivendran, 33, of Sivakasi — were hastened to Government Hospital in Sivakasi. Gubendran, who suffered 100% burns, was later referred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the workers were burning the leftover waste like wicks and chemicals around 50 meters away from the factory when the accident took place,” district fire officer K Ganesan, who visited the spot, told TOI. A fire tender from the Virudhunagar fire station hastened to the spot in 20 minutes after the accident and put off the flames.
