ONDC will provide equal opportunities to small traders: Piyush Goyal – Times of India

New Delhi: Open network for digital commerce (ONDC) will provide equal opportunities to small retailers to enjoy the benefits of the digital world and allow them to do business on a common platform, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal Said on Friday.
On 29 April, the government launched the pilot phase of ONDC, a UPI-type protocol, in five cities. Its aim was to democratize the fast-growing e-commerce sector, help small retailers and reduce the dominance of online retail giants.
Goyal said the growing influence of large format e-commerce companies may jeopardize the existence of small retailers, who indulge in several unregulated practices and are under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate.
In countries like the US, the big e-commerce giants have hit small retail outlets badly, leading to massive unemployment.
“We don’t want this to happen in India. We want them (small retailers) to have the opportunity to use technology to serve our consumers, we want them to have an equal opportunity to enjoy the fruits of the digital world.” Meet, we want their data to be preserved,” he told reporters.
ONDC is a set of protocols and a technology-based solution that allows all to do business on a common platform, he said.
He said that everyone knows about the malpractices being practiced by big e-commerce companies, how they are giving priority to their sister companies and where their stake is.
He said that such practices exploit sellers.
Goyal said, “ONDC will provide a large number of choices to the consumers… In a way, it is a medium to democratize e-commerce. It will provide equal opportunities to sell products and a good number of choices to all consumers.” Will meet.”
ONDC is a set of standards for voluntary adoption by vendors or logistics providers or payment gateways.
When asked about news reports related to Turkey rejecting Indian wheat consignments over phytosanitary concerns, the minister said that he has inquired about the issue and found that ITC has followed due process and quality checks. Having exported wheat to a buyer in the Netherlands.
He further added that ITC is a reputed company and exports good quality wheat and “I am sure that Indian wheat is of the best quality”.
India has exported 70 lakh tonnes of wheat in the last fiscal and 14.5 lakh tonnes in April and this shows that “worldwide, Indian wheat is welcome,” he said.
