Onam 2021: PM Modi, Vice President Naidu extend Onam greetings

Prime minister Narendra Modi Greeted Onam to the people of the country on Saturday. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said: “Greetings on the special occasion of Onam, a festival of positivity, vibrancy, brotherhood and harmony. I pray for everyone’s good health and well being.”

Congratulating Onam, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted: My warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Onam today. It marks the beginning of the harvest season in different parts of our country. Onam also honors the memory of Mahabali, the great king of Kerala, who is celebrated for his nobility and generosity. #Onam.” In another tweet, he wrote: “May this vibrant festival bring peace, prosperity & happiness to all. #Onam #Onam2021.”

My motherThe most revered and celebrated festival of Kerala, is celebrated every year by the Malayalee community across the world. The 10-day long festival marks the beginning of the harvest season as well as the homecoming of King Mahabali as well as the appearance of the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu. The festival begins with Atham (Hasta) Nakshatram, and ends on Thiruvonam (Shravana) Nakshatram. This year, the harvest festival began on August 12 and will end on August 23. The 10 days of the festival are named after astrological stars according to the Malayalam calendar. Each day has its own assigned name, significance and activities.

Greeting citizens on the eve of Onam on Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind said that the festival spreads the message of harmony, love and fraternity in the society.

In his message, the President said, on the auspicious occasion of Onam, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all the countrymen, especially the brothers and sisters of Kerala living in India and abroad. He said that this festival, celebrated to commemorate the yield of new crop in the fields, shows the tireless hard work of the farmer and the gratitude towards nature. Kovind said that this festival also gives the message of harmony, love and fraternity in the society.

On this occasion, let us all resolve to move forward together towards the progress and prosperity of our country, the President had said in a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
