Pakistan beat India by an innings and 43 runs at the University Ground in Lucknow.

India’s tour of Pakistan, which included a five-match Test series, was memorable in more ways than one. Five years after Partition, this was the first time that India and Pakistan faced each other on the match field. Also, Pakistan were playing their first Test match when they faced India in the first Test of the five-match series at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi.

In the first Test match between the two sides, India registered a comfortable win by an innings and 70 runs to register their name in the history books. Pakistan made a strong comeback in the next game as they registered their first Test win against India in the purest format of the game.

Playing at the University Ground in Lucknow, Pakistan defeated India by an innings and 43 runs. It was also Pakistan’s first win in the Test format. The match started with India batting first as the coin went in favor of Indian captain Lala Amarnath. India had a disappointing performance in the first innings.

The hosts could manage only 106 runs as the Pakistan bowlers did not give any room for the Indian batsmen to settle in the middle. Opener Pankaj Roy was the highest run-scorer as he added 30 runs to the scoreboard. Apart from Pankaj, no other Indian player could score 15+ runs.

On the other hand, the visitors were absolutely fantastic with Willow. Opener Nazar Mohammad played an inning of 124 runs to take Pakistan to an impressive total of 331 runs. Nazar remained not out till the end and ensured that Pakistan tied the knot and moved closer to victory.

In reply, India had a chance to redeem themselves in the third innings. However, the hosts failed to live up to the reputation. The hosts again failed to show intent with the bat as they suffered another collapse. The captain tried to control the damage by adding 61 runs but it was not enough to get India out of trouble.

Pakistan’s Fazal Mahmood ran through India’s batting order to take seven wickets and restrict India to 182 runs. Therefore, an easy win for Pakistan by an innings and 43 runs came to an end.
