Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is set to perform the Bhumi Puja of the ambitious Shree Mandir Parikrama Yojana or Jagannath Heritage Corridor project in Puri on October 18. The announcement came after the temple administration received a No Objection Certificate (NOC). ) from the National Monuments Authority (NMA) for the smooth execution of the project.
Krishna Kumar, the chief administrator of the temple, said, “The chief minister will formally launch the project, for which we have got the NOC, followed by the land worship.” Jagannath Temple on Monday.
On this occasion a grand event and Yagya will be organized near the northern gate of Jagannath Temple in the presence of 450 dignitaries including Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati and Puri Raja Dibyasingh Deb.
Implemented at a cost of about Rs 800 crore within a 75-metre radius of the temple, the heritage corridor project envisages development of monasteries, a Shree Jagannath welcome centre, facilities for devotees and enhanced security of the temple.
The project is a part of the Expansion of Infrastructure and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme to develop Puri as a world-class heritage city.
The government has purchased land from 115 families around the temple to execute the project. At least 512 shops and 24 lodges were evicted for the 75 meter corridor project. In addition, properties of 25 mutts were acquired for the project. The government has so far paid Rs 289.34 crore on land acquisition for this purpose. The project aims to provide wide and unobstructed corridors around the Meghnad Pachery (outer boundary wall) to give an opportunity to the devotees to have a bird’s eye view of the temple, Neelchakra and Meghnad Pachery.
