The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday held that the previous BJP government’s move to give consent to the CBI to investigate the disproportionate assets case against Shivakumar was not in accordance with the law
Defending the state cabinet’s move to withdraw consent for a CBI probe against his Deputy DK Shivakumar in a disproportionate assets case, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the probe was not in accordance with the law.
“Doesn’t it have to be done according to the law? What they did was not in accordance with the law, they referred it to the advocate general. The advocate general hasn’t given an opinion yet on whether this should be given to CBI or not, before that then CM BS Yediyurappa, gave oral instructions to then chief secretary to give this matter to CBI when DK Shivakumar was a sitting MLA. Did BS Yediyurappa get permission from the then-speaker? That’s why we have said it’s illegally sanctioned,” ANI quoted CM as saying.

Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the government has not gone into the merits of the disproportionate assets case against Shivakumar but has only corrected the “procedural lapse” on the part of the previous BJP regime.
Maintaining that the Congress government’s decision is not politically motivated to “protect” Shivakumar, he said the opposition BJP and JD(S) were free to interpret whatever way they want.
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday held that the previous BJP government’s move to give consent to the CBI to investigate the disproportionate assets case against Shivakumar, also the State Congress President, was not in accordance with the law and decided to withdraw the sanction.
Shivakumar on Cabinet’s Move
Refraining from offering a direct comment, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday said he has seen media reports about the state cabinet holding the view that the sanction given by the previous BJP government to the CBI to investigate a disproportionate assets case against him was “not in accordance with the law.”
Shivakumar, also Karnataka Congress chief, stayed away from Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
