On First Day As Prime Minister Of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif Ends Two Weekly Holidays In Government Offices

Pakistan’s newly-elected Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday ended two weekly holidays in government offices on the first day in office and changed their timings as he attempted to revive the country’s economy. Sharif, who was sworn in as Pakistan’s 23rd prime minister on Monday, reached his office at 8:00 am before the arrival of staff, most of them arriving at 10:00 am, which was the scheduled opening time of the office. by the previous Imran Khan government.

Prime Minister changed office hours to 8 am instead of 10:00 am. He also announced that only Sundays would be a weekly holiday in government offices. State Radio Pakistan quoted him as saying that honesty, transparency, diligence and hard work are our guiding principles.

He ordered immediate implementation of the announcements of increase in pension and minimum wage of Rs 25,000. Sharif also convened an emergency meeting of economic experts to discuss the dire economic situation facing the country and to take measures as per the guidance of economic experts to improve the situation.

Meanwhile, deliberations are underway to finalize the cabinet. Political sources said that Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is likely to be appointed as the foreign minister. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Rana Sanullah and Maryam Aurangzeb are likely to get Interior Ministry and Information Ministry respectively.

According to sources, the initial members of the cabinet are expected to be finalized by evening. Sharif, who became the new Prime Minister of Pakistan after the needless ouster of Imran Khan, is a staunch realist and over the years he has earned the reputation of a good administrator as well as a genuine person.
