Earlier, a total of eight omicron cases were reported including Muzaffarnagar (3), Ghaziabad (2), Rae Bareli (1), Meerut (1), Gautam Budh Nagar (1). Also, there are at least 50 samples pending for genome sequencing.
This means that the new strain is present in 10 cities of UP.
Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare Amit Mohan Prasad said that prevention is extremely necessary as the COVID-19 pandemic has increased its activity in the state.
“While the rise in new cases is undeniable, the number of hospitalizations remains low. But containment is essential to ensure that systems and resources are not overwhelmed,” he said.
The official bulletin indicated that the spike in cases was visible in major cities including Gautam Budh Nagar (165), Ghaziabad (174), Lucknow (150) and Meerut (102). Also around 13 other cities made double digit entries in the last 24 hours.
Though there were no new deaths, 77 persons recovered from the infection taking the total number of cured COVID patients to 1,68,807. The data showed that the number of active cases rose to 3,173 with new entries. With this, the presence of the pandemic virus is zero in only two districts out of 75 in the state.
ACS Prasad urged the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 prevention protocol and get vaccinated at the earliest in personal and social interest.
