A shocking claim has come to the fore regarding the third wave of the epidemic in India amid the threat of a new variant Omicron of Corona worldwide. According to the National Kovid-19 Supermodel Panel, the third wave of corona can be seen in the country by February from Omicron. It will be at peak this month.

Panel head and IIT Hyderabad professor M Vidyasagar told news agency ANI that the third wave of corona in the country will be at its peak in February. It won’t be dangerous to win this second wave though. New patients in February will also be less than in the second wave.

Omicron threat less in India than in UK
Professor Vidyasagar said that the new variant of Corona, Omicron, is spreading rapidly in Britain. However, the situation in India will not be like the UK. He gave two reasons behind this. Vidyasagar said that there are two important things about Omicron. First- Britain has low sero-positivity and high vaccine rates, while India has both. Which makes India less vulnerable.

He said that low sero-positivity means less infection than natural infection. Second- Britain has mostly used mRNA vaccines which only provide short-term protection. These vaccines have not been used in India. Which makes India’s position better.

Third wave will therefore be less dangerous
Professor Vidyasagar said that the central government had started vaccination from March this year itself. At that time the Delta variant was knocked out. So the delta variant hit a population that was unvaccinated. According to a sero-survey, there is still only a small part of the population in the country that has not been exposed to the delta virus.

The country has a sero-prevalence of 75% to 80% (prior exposure). Vaccination has also taken place to a large extent. This is the reason why the third wave of corona is expected to be less dangerous.

Experts have issued warnings
Amidst the threat of Omicron, on December 17, ICMR DG Dr. Balram Bhargava had warned about Kovid Appropriate Behavior. He had instructed people to avoid crowded places and unnecessary travel. Bhargava had also said that in the districts where the new cases of corona are more than 5%, the administration was suggested to start preparations with full strictness from now on.

113 cases of the new variant in 12 states so far
The Health Ministry said on Friday that the new variant Omicron of Corona has spread to 91 countries around the world. So far 113 cases of the new variant have been found in 12 states of the country. According to the WHO, the Omicron variant is spreading more rapidly in South Africa than the Delta strain. In other words, the Omicron is proving to be more dangerous than the Delta variant.
