Omicron variant alert: 12 new cases reported in Karnataka, five test positive in Kerala

New Delhi: After almost more than 20 months since Covid-19 hit the country, which threw life out of gear and almost nine months after the delta version boom, which left many people gasping for oxygen. Granted, things were falling back. But, it appears to be a wild dream for the citizens of the country as the omicron, which was first discovered in Botswana, is spreading rapidly in a month’s time and is currently prevalent in 106 countries.

The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday revealed that Maharashtra and Delhi have reported 236 recently detected coronavirus cases, with 65 and 64 cases respectively. But, the southern states have also topped in terms of registering the maximum number of cases with Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

On Thursday, Karnataka reported 12 new omicron type cases, said the Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education, Dr Sudhakar K Saif on his Twitter handle. The total omicron cases in the state have gone up to 31 including 12 cases reported on Thursday.

Kerala, on the other hand, has reported five omicron cases on Thursday. “Five people have tested #omicron Positive, of whom four reached Cochin International Airport, Ernakulam and one reached Bengaluru airport. All of them have been admitted to the hospital,” Health Minister Veena George was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.
