Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that a patient died of the new Omicron version of Kovid-19 in the country, AFP news agency reported.
“Sadly, yes, Omicron is being hospitalized and sadly there has been at least one confirmed death of a patient with Omicron.
“So I think the idea that it’s somehow just a milder version of the virus, I think it’s something that we need to set aside and just recognize the rapid pace at which this population So the best thing we can do is get everyone our boosters,” he said during his visit to the vaccination clinic near Paddington in west London, according to media reports.
Omicron now represents about 40 percent of coronavirus cases in London and is set to rise to more than 50 percent a day.
“The risk is clearly out there, we can see Omicron rising now in London and some other parts of the country,” Johnson said.
“Here in the capital it probably represents about 40 per cent of the cases. By tomorrow it will be the majority of the cases and it is rising all the time.”
