Omicron threat in Punjab: Count of Kovid patients increasing continuously for 4 days; 55 patients on life saving support

Corona cases are increasing continuously in Punjab after the threat of new variant Omicron of Kovid. There were 325 active cases in Punjab on 29 November. Which has increased to 344 by 2 December. Now 55 patients are on life saving support in the state.

The threat of Omicron has increased in Punjab as a large number of NRIs have returned home here during the wedding season. However, now the health department of Punjab is on alert and monitoring of such passengers is being done.

Current situation of Kovid in Punjab
So far, 1.62 crore tests of Kovid have been done in Punjab. In which 6 lakh 3 thousand 352 positive cases have been found. Out of these, 5 lakh 86 thousand 402 people have been cured. At the same time, 16 thousand 606 people have died. 38 patients are on oxygen support. 14 patients are on critical care and 3 on ventilator.

Passengers coming from 11 countries including South Africa are being monitored in Punjab to prevent the entry of Omicron variants.  These include Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel.

Tests increased but still only half
Seeing the threat of Omicron, Deputy CM OP Soni, who is handling the Health Ministry, had asked to conduct 40 thousand tests daily. Although still the tests have reached close to 25 thousand. Before this, the health department was conducting 16 to 17 thousand tests daily.

No new cases in 10 districts, NRI belt Jalandhar raises concern
According to the last data released by the Health Department on Thursday, there are 10 districts in the state where no new cases were found. These include Barnala, Fazilka, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Moga, Muktsar, Ropar, Sangrur and SBS Nagar.
However, 7 new cases were found on Thursday in Jalandhar, which is considered to be an NRI belt. The positivity rate here is also 0.28%. 4-4 cases have been found in Ludhiana and Pathankot, 3-3 in Bathinda, Ferozepur, Patiala and SAS Nagar, 2-2 in Amritsar and Mansa, 1-1 in Faridkot, Hoshiarpur and Tarn Taran.

Order to create separate ward in Punjab
In view of the danger of Omicron variant of Kovid, the government has asked all government hospitals to make separate wards for their suspected patients. A high-level meeting of the health department has also been held regarding this. However, till now no case of Omicron variant has been found in Punjab.
