Omicron scare: Haryana ramps up testing | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: The state has expedited testing for COVID-19 in the last 15 days in view of concerns about the new omicron Type. before 25 November, HaryanaThe 22 districts of K were conducting 19,000 tests daily, which has now increased to 39,000. it includes both RT-PCR and antigen testing.
Gurgaon, which earlier used to conduct 3,000 tests daily, is testing an average of 4,000 samples per day, followed by Faridabad with 3,000 samples. Both the districts contribute 19% of the total tests being conducted in the state.
Meanwhile, districts like Nuh and Kaithal have been found to be backward, conducting less than 1,000 tests daily. “We have increased daily testing to ensure that we identify new cases at the earliest. All districts have been asked to follow strict testing measures and COVID norms. We currently have a target of conducting over 35,000 tests per day in Haryana due to the Omicron threat. Every district has been given a target for testing,” said Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajiv Arora.
Testing and tracing of contacts of COVID patients is important to contain the spread of the infection. If contacts are traced within a few days and their samples are tested immediately, it helps the administration to ensure timely treatment of patients and prevent their health condition from becoming critical.
Experts said that anyone with flu-like symptoms should be tested for Covid. needs to be increased genome sequencing Covid patients by taking samples at random, especially if there is a history of international travel or a cluster of new cases, he said.
“Omicron variants have the potential to spread faster than other variants, so we have to be very cautious from the early stages to ensure and control the spread at the earliest. Dr Manoj Goel, director (pulmonary) of the Fortis Memorial Research Institute said, “Testing for the infection and tracing the source is an important step in restricting its spread.”
However, Haryana still relies on laboratories in Delhi for genome sequencing of the virus as it still does not have its own facility for the purpose. The Health Department said that PGIMS, Rohtak would soon be able to do genome sequencing.
“We will start the process within a week. Now we have the infrastructure. We are currently sending the samples to Delhi,” said Dr Dhruv Choudhary, the nodal officer for Covid-19 in Haryana.
