Omicron Scare: DDMA to conduct RT-PCR test for travelers coming from ‘high risk’ countries

New Delhi: In view of the spread of Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to conduct RT-PCR tests, genome sequencing of positive cases and mandatory isolation for all people coming from ‘high risk’ countries . ,

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the new Omicron coronavirus variant was discussed by experts in the meeting.

The DDMA meeting chaired by Lt Governor Anil Baijal decided to strictly follow the strategy of testing, track, treatment and isolation along with strict implementation of COVID-appropriate behavior and enhanced immunization.

“It was decided to conduct 100 per cent RT-PCR testing of travelers from high-risk countries, followed by genome sequencing of positive cases and mandatory isolation/quarantine as per the guidelines laid down by the Government of India.” Official saying.

The health department has been directed to ensure adequate availability of beds, medicines and oxygen and has also been advised to intensify the vaccination drive for the remaining citizens.

Sisodia said there was an “uncertainty” over the spread and impact of the Omicron version, but the Delhi government was prepared to deal with the rise in Covid cases.

Sisodia said, “The Delhi government is preparing based on the experience of the second wave of Kovid in April-June. We have put the availability of hospital beds on alert mode and have withdrawn those reserved for dengue for Covid Will go.”

“We cannot take things lightly. We have learned our lessons from last year’s experience. We are fully prepared to deal with any possible wave of COVID-19 this time.
