Omicron cases in India now 161, most cases ‘mild’

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha on Monday that there are now 161 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 in India.

Omicron scares in India

161 confirmed cases of the Omron variant have been detected in 12 states across the country.

Sources told India Today that the condition of not a single person found infected with Omicron is critical. All the cases are ‘mild’, sources said, adding that 42 persons have been discharged after treatment.

Maharashtra has 54 confirmed cases of Omicron type, followed by 32 in Delhi, 20 in Telangana, 17 in Rajasthan, 13 in Gujarat, 11 in Kerala, eight in Karnataka, two in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal. Bengal and Chandigarh one each.

Genomic sequencing of 31,000 samples is being done every month in 38 laboratories across the country.
