Rahi Sarnobat made for Olympics

Olympic-going Rahi Sarnobat displayed sensational form to clinch a gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol at the ISSF Shooting World Cup here on Monday, but teenage sensation Manu Bhaker finished seventh in the same event.

Sarnobat’s gold is India’s first gold in the current edition after the country won one silver and two bronze medals earlier in the tournament.

The 30-year-old Sarnobat made a final score of 39 after qualifying in second place with a total of 591. His stellar performances in the final included perfect scores in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth series.

Silver went to Mathilde Lamoulle of France, who scored 31 runs in the final.

In qualification, Sarnobat scored a brilliant 296 runs in the rapid fire round on Monday. Her exact score was an equally impressive 295 on Sunday. Bhaker scored a record total of 588 to reach the third position with 296 runs.

Rapid Fire Round on Monday after an impressive 292 in the Precision Round on Sunday. However, she was eliminated early in the final.

A disappointing 11, lost in a shoot-off to Viktoria Chaka of Bulgaria.

Bhaker along with Saurabh Chaudhary won the 10m Air Pistol mixed team silver medal.

She had earlier won the women’s 10m air pistol team bronze medal along with Sarnobat and Yashaswini Deswal.

Earlier, Choudhary had won the men’s 10m air pistol individual bronze medal.

This is the last competitive outing for the Olympic-bound shooters, who will travel to Tokyo after their stint here.
