Odisha School Uses Classroom Door as Blackboard, Show-cause Notice Issued

A government high school in Odisha has been embroiled in a controversy after a purported video showing a classroom door being used as a substitute for a blackboard went viral on social media. The incident came to light on Tuesday when a teacher of the school was seen writing exam questions on the classroom door in the video.

PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

“We were forced to sit for some time as the teachers did not provide us question papers for the exams. Later, a teacher wrote questions on the classroom door,” said a class 8 student.

Parvat Moharana, the father of a student, alleged that the classroom door is used as a blackboard throughout the year.

The DEO cum Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Jajpur said that a show cause notice has been issued to the school.

“We have issued a show-cause notice to the headmistress of the school for dereliction of duty and asked her to respond within three days, failing which necessary action will be initiated,” he said.

Meanwhile, the headmistress of Hingula Government High School Saraswati Panda said that the institute has not received the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan question papers.

“We have two smart classrooms. As the school has more than 400 students from classes 1-8 who are appearing for the exams, we made adjustments for the seating arrangements in all the rooms.

“Since there are no blackboards in the school building, we had to write the questions on the classroom doors,” Panda said. Officials said the school, located near Antiya village in the district, was upgraded last year under the ‘5T’ initiative, which aims to develop infrastructure in educational institutions.
