Odisha: Police, Farmers, Scuffle on Road to CM’s Residence

Unable to reach Chief Minister’s residence Naveen Niwas, the agitators protested near the airport police station and threatened to protest across the state if their demands were not met.

Protesting farmers were on Monday manhandled by police here when they were stopped from visiting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence to press for their demands related to paddy procurement in the state.

Police said some of the agitators were taken into preventive custody.

A large number of farmers, under the aegis of Navnirman Krishak Sangathan (NKS), waved placards and shouted slogans against the alleged cutting of paddy at five to seven kg per quintal on the pretext of poor quality.

He also alleged denial of proper MSP (minimum support price) on the sale of paddy. The organization claimed that the farmers were forced to hit the road as they are yet to get the MSP for paddy and are suffering as middlemen make profit at their cost.

Unable to reach Naveen Niwas, the Chief Minister’s residence, the agitators demonstrated near the Airport police station and threatened to hold protests across the state if their demands were not met.
