The incident took place on Sunday night in Nuadhi village of Jamankira police station area.

Police in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Monday detained a man for allegedly beating his wife to death for not cooking rice.

The accused has been identified as Sanatan Dharua, 40, while his wife has been identified as Pushpa Dharua, 35.

Sanatan and he have a daughter and a son, Pushpa. Their daughter works as a domestic help in Kuchinda, while the son had gone to sleep at his friend’s house on Sunday night.

When Sanatan returned home, he found that Pushpa had cooked only curry and not rice. This led to an argument between them, during which he attacked his wife and bludgeoned her to death, a police officer said.

The matter came to light when the son of the deceased returned home and found his mother dead. She informed the police, who took possession of the body and took the husband into custody.

Inspector Premjit Das, in-charge of Jamankira police station, told that the post-mortem was done on Monday and the accused husband has been taken into custody.
