A senior official said on Saturday that the Odisha government has ordered hospitals to keep beds and medicines ready amid rising cases of dengue. 175 cases of dengue were reported in the state.

The government issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals across the state to deal with the cases. Director of Public Health Niranjan Mishra said hospitals have been instructed to keep adequate medicines, platelet stock and beds ready.

He said that out of the total 175 cases reported so far, 93 cases have been reported from Khurda district, where Bhubaneswar is located. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) health officer Dilip Kumar Bisoi said steps are being taken to prevent the spread of dengue.

“Some areas have been identified as hotspots and BMC personnel are stressing on sanitizing them,” he added. Mishra said that special attention needs to be paid in the period from July to September to control dengue. He said, 10,781 tests have been conducted so far this year, while last year only 5,400 tests were conducted during this period.

“Last year around 300 cases were reported during this period, while this year it has come down to 175,” he said. Mishra urged people to clean any puddles or standing water around them.
