Odisha government may offer outgoing DGP Abhay Plum post after retirement. Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneshwar: With DGP Abhay Going to retire on December 31, there is speculation that the Odisha government may give him a bigger post after retirement. The Naveen Patnaik government is known to hire bureaucrats with a clean track record in various key positions.
Retired IAS officer R Balakrishnan is serving as the Chief Advisor in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). In August 2019, retired Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi and DGP RP Sharma were appointed as State Election Commissioner and Member, Lokayukta respectively. Both had taken voluntary retirement from service and accepted the new offers.
In December last year, the government had appointed retired chief secretary Asit Tripathi as the chairman of the Western Odisha Development Council. Tripathi was given additional charge and was the principal advisor to the CMO on regional development, tourism, agribusiness and industry.
Senior IPS officer Satyajit Mohanty also took voluntary retirement and joined as the chairman of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) in February this year.
“Naveen and his office depend heavily on bureaucrats. It has been the practice and tradition of the government to appoint retired IAS and IPS officers, the favorite of the CM, to various posts after their retirement. Since Abhay’s service record is clean and honest and he is not embroiled in any controversy, the government may reward him with a job after his retirement,” said PK Mohapatra, a retired police officer.
Considering his contribution to fighting Left Wing Extremism and drug trafficking in the state, talks are on that Abhay could be chosen to advise the government on security-related issues.
Abhay (1986-batch officer) was designated as the DGP on November 20, 2019 and assumed office on December 9, the same year.
Though he was to retire in June 2021, the government extended his service by another six months to fulfill the Supreme Court’s direction to ensure a minimum tenure of two years for a DGP.
Abhay Pratham Odisha DGP, who discharged his duty for two full years as prescribed by the Apex Court. The government on December 15 named Sunil Bansal, special director of the Intelligence Bureau, as Abhay’s successor.
