Bhubaneswar: All industries dependent on the state government for their water requirement will have to install sensor-based flow meters, a water measuring device, at their intake points.
The State Water Resources Department has given instructions to the Chief Engineer’s office.EIC), to coordinate with the State Industries Department, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation to plan and design Odisha Limited (IPICOL) and other agencies to finalize the standard specification of flow meter and ensure its timely installation in all industries.
The decision to install meters in all industries has been taken after the success of two pilot projects- one IFFCO, Paradip and others Death‘s quadrangle Unit.
A water flow meter is a device used to measure the amount of water passing through a particular channel (pipe). With the installation of meters, the state government can track the actual usage of water by various industries as per their demand.
The department has asked the office of EIC to communicate to all industries to install flow meters at their intake points, failing which penalty will be levied by the department. After installation of flow meter, industries will have to calibrate it with legal metrology from time to time.
