Odisha gets allocation of Rs 9,734 crore for railway sector | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has received an allocation of Rs 9,734 crore in the Union Budget for the development of railway sector. It is the highest allocation for the state so far. This time, the state has got Rs 2738.5 crore more compared to last year’s allocation of Rs 6995.5 crore.
The allocation includes state share and extra budgetary resources (EBR) like loans. This year, the state government had sought Rs 7,600 crore from the annual budget 2022-23 for development of the rail infrastructure in Odisha.
One of the oldest and important projects of the state Khurda Road-Balangir (289 km) new line received an allocation of Rs 891 crore this year against last year’s Rs 1000 crore. This new line project sanctioned in 1994-95 will connect western Odisha with the coastal part of the state. Khurda Road to Mahipur (77km) section from Khurda Road end and Balangir to Bicchupali (15km) section from Balangir end have been commissioned so far. Work on other sections is underway.
Another new line project Angul-Sukinda Road (98.7km) sanctioned in 1997-98 has received a budget grant of Rs 475 crore against last year’s Rs 400 crore. Work of the project is underway. It is an important line for the industrial belt.
Talcher-Bimalagarh (154 km) new line, another important project, got Rs 250 crore against last year’s Rs 10 crore. This project sanctioned in 2004-05 is getting delayed due to land acquisition and other issues.
Another old project Haridaspur-Paradip (82km) new line has received Rs 85 crore against last year’s Rs 100 crore. This project has been commissioned. But the allocation will help in completing some stations and its related works.
Some new projects including Jeypore-Nabarangpur (38 km) new line got Rs 81 crore against last year’s Rs 15.1 crore. Similarly, the Jeypore-Malkangiri (130km) new line received only Rs 13.8 crore against last year’s Rs 28 crore. These projects are important to bring the tribal dominated Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts on the railway map for development.
Commerce and transport minister Padmanabh Behera said there is a state share for several railway projects. “We provide our share for construction of some projects including Khurda Road-Balangir newline project. We will go through the budget allocation and find out how much the Center allocated for the state,” he added.
In the budget, the Center has sanctioned final location surveys of Malkangiri-Bhadrachalam new line (125km), Junagarh-Nabarangpur new line (118km) and Talcher-Ganjam-Gopalpur new line (282km). With the sanction of the final survey of Malkangiri-Bhadrachalam and Junagarh-Nabarangpur new lines, the railways made it sure that it will connect tribal areas of 411 km from Junagarh in Odisha to Bhadrachalam in Telangana.
Vizianagaram-Sambalpur third line received an allocation of Rs 961 crore, while Jarapada-Budhapank third and fourth line got Rs 417 crore. Similarly, Budhapank-Salegaon third and fourth line received Rs 510 crore.
The Center has sanctioned Rs 3,643 crore for doubling works and around Rs 397 crore for construction of foot over bridges/road under bridges. Odisha received Rs 304.17 crore this year for passenger amenities against last year’s Rs 429 crore.
